What is Reiki?
Reiki is a safe, simple,
non-invasive, hands-on vibrational healing therapy that promotes balance of the
body's systems (homeostasis), helping the body to heal itself while at the same
time complimenting conventional medical treatments. There are no
contra-indications for Reiki Treatments. Reiki is not directed or manipulated by
the Reiki Practitioner, so there is no need for diagnosis, and as Reiki is drawn
according to the needs of the client there is no risk of overdose. Unlike some
more conventional treatments no substance is injected or ingested, and no
substance is applied, so with Reiki Treatments the risks associated with that
are non-existent. Reiki Treatments can be administered stand-alone, or combined
with any other conventional and/or complimentary interventions.
How is it
administered?
A Reiki Treatment generally
involves the client lying fully clothed on a massage table, although treatments
can also be administered with the client seated comfortably in a chair (or on a
hospital bed for instance) should their condition warrant this. A trained Reiki
Practitioner places their hands lightly on the body (head and/or torso, front
and/or back) in a number of strategic positions, one position at a time,
generally for up to five minutes for each position. A standard Reiki Treatment
usually covers twelve such positions over the period of an hour or so, although
treatments in medical institutions are often shorter than this.

Can I learn
Reiki?
Yes. Reiki is easily learned by
anyone of any age, in any state of health or wellbeing, who has an interest. A
First-Degree Reiki course is usually run over two consecutive 6-8 hour days, and
courses are readily available at reasonable cost. For ongoing
treatment of certain long-term conditions, including cancer, HIV/AIDS and
palliative care, we actually encourage clients to undergo training so they can
then treat themselves as and when required. Experience has shown us that Reiki
is equally effective in self-treatment as when administered by another.
